"Remarkably Bright Creatures” at Iranian bookstores
TEHRAN- Canadian author Shelby Van Pelt’s novel “Remarkably Bright Creatures” has recently been published in Persian by Milkan Publication in Tehran.
First published in 2022, the book has been translated into Persian by Suma Zamani.
"Remarkably Bright Creatures" is a touching exploration of friendship, healing, and hope, centered on Tova Sullivan, a widow coping with the loss of her husband and the mysterious disappearance of her son, Erik, over thirty years ago. Working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, Tova finds solace in her routine of mopping floors and caring for the aquatic life around her.
Her life takes an unexpected turn when she forms an unlikely bond with Marcellus, a clever and curmudgeonly giant Pacific octopus. Though initially reluctant to engage with humans, Marcellus becomes a confidant and friend to Tova, and through their relationship, he uses his unique perspective to help her confront the past. As he employs his keen observational skills to unravel the mystery of Erik’s disappearance, Tova is gently encouraged to examine her own heartache.
Van Pelt’s debut novel serves as a poignant reminder that facing the past can illuminate pathways to healing and new beginnings, even when the future seems bleak.
